The BioGS system at the international Carbon Removal symposium
KiRa Technology took part in the poster session of the international symposium Biomass-Based Carbon Removal: Pathways to Gigaton-Scale Industrial Transition, organised by the University of Bologna in Ravenna as part of the European project NET-Fuels (Horizon Europe).
The event brought together researchers, companies and stakeholders working on innovative solutions for CO₂ removal and the transition towards sustainable industrial models, with particular focus on the strategic role of biomass and bio-based technologies.
In this context, KiRa Technology presented its circular economy model based on the short biochar supply chain, built around the BioGS microcogenerator. The model proposes an innovative approach to biomass valorisation, in which the plant operator is not simply an energy consumer but becomes a true transformer of raw material.
Through the thermochemical conversion of biomass, BioGS simultaneously produces energy and biochar, turning agricultural and forestry residues into high-value resources. In this vision, energy production is a consequence of the biomass valorisation process, while biochar becomes a central element for the environmental and economic sustainability of the supply chain.
The model delivers concrete benefits for all actors involved: competitively priced biomass supply, high-quality biochar production and new economic opportunities along the entire value chain. At the same time, it promotes the decarbonisation of production processes and stable carbon sequestration in the soil, contributing to European climate targets.
Participation in the symposium was an important opportunity to engage with the world of international research and innovation, confirming the growing interest in solutions that integrate energy production, sustainable biomass management and atmospheric carbon removal.
KiRa Technology thus continues its commitment to developing technologies that combine environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and economic value for local territories and communities.
